The Chaos to Come
Donald Trump lost, but these next two months are going to be anything but quiet
Donald Trump has a long history of rejecting reality and substituting his own. He exists in a golden bubble wherein-which everything he says, or does, or is, defines the totality of his being—as well as the world that’s swirling around him. It’s a remarkable talent, to be this devoted to self-delusion, to be entirely convinced of the immutable perfection of one’s self to such a degree that you convince others that your delusion is not a delusion at all, but actual, corporeal reality.
Enter: Michelle Bachmann.
Donald Trump lost the election. He insists there was rampant election fraud, but to date there has been no evidence to support his claims. He can push for re-counts and try to get votes thrown out in the courts, but he’s going to lose by at least 4 million votes, and likely over 30 electoral college votes.
Trump has no path to victory. It’s over.
But regardless of that fact, Trump’s view of the election is very unlikely to change. In his mind, he won. And it would be one thing if that false idea started and ended in his head. But in addition to Bachmann, several well-known Republicans are backing Trump in his tireless campaign to incite discord and chaos in a nation that is already mired in it.
We are 72 days away from Inauguration 2021. Typically, the last few months of a lame duck president are rather tame and quiet. I think we all know that that is not going to be the case this time. Donald Trump and his enablers are not going to go quietly. If I had to guess, I’d say there is almost no chance he attends the inauguration, or willfully participates in the transfer of power between the administrations. He will continue to try to delegitimize the president elect in any way he can. He will continue to embolden his supporters to aggressively question a fully legal and valid election—and the Republican party, by in large, will continue to meet his dangerous vitriol with silence or support. He’s comfortable in chaos. He thrives through division and self-aggrandizement.
And beyond all that, the fate of the Affordable Care Act hangs in the balance.
Tomorrow, Tuesday November 10th, the Supreme Court will begin to hear arguments in a case that could eliminate the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare). If this happens, if the law is struck down entirely, at least 23 million Americans would lose insurance, and the entire health insurance industry would be thrown into complete disarray. With a 6-3 conservative majority on the Supreme Court, this ruling is a possibility.
The case, like others before it, is centered around the constitutionality of the individual mandate—which is currently set at 0$. The key question here is severability: Can this one section of the bill be thrown out without throwing out the whole thing? One would hope that is the case, but right now it’s not clear.
The point is, the country should be ready for a few heaping tablespoons of bedlam before Trump is forced to leave office and start propagandizing the nation further through Trump TV.
Always...very informative. Thank you..❤
